CAPER 2009 BOOTH REPORT

GAME: Frisbee Toss

Caper Chair Notes: They choose "Great Day for Up" as the theme book. This was the first year (in a long time) we've had this booth, so I commend the chairs for trying something new!

Rules of the game, how many tickets it costs: 1 for three tosses, 2 for six

Supplies used (are any stored that are re-used? Any special gear or prizes needed? How many tables/ chairs?):

Three hula hoops from PE
Three bungee cords of varying lengths
Six foam frisbees from PE

Decorations used:
Large banner
decorations made by the class
Eight helium balloons

Involvement of teacher and students in planning booth:

Mrs. Bretl chose the book and the students made some decorations for the booth. I had them draw/color “what means up” to them. Some drew a pizza, some drew the sun, some drew fireworks. Then I took photos of each of them and put their photo on their drawing and taped it to the walls in the booth.

Scheduling/staffing (how many per shift are needed? Other details?):

This game would have been much harder to run if it weren’t for the high-school student volunteers who came to help. Each group of two took a half-day. There were one or two other parents from the class who volunteered, but otherwise we were largely lacking in parent participation. This game needs at least two adults per shift.

What do you wish you’d have done differently? What was hardest (if anything)?

It was difficult to keep the line from the Ring Toss out of our booth. I also wish that there were rules about opening soda from the ring toss and cakes because we had food accidents with soda and cake in our booth from people in line for the Ring Toss. They also were not always very happy to move out of the way for people who wanted to throw frisbees.

Kent strung wires criss-cross above the booth that allowed me to hang the bungee cords from them. I hung the one in the back lower and two on the sides, and then hung hula hoops from all of them. A frisbee through the one in the back was first prize and the one closest was third prize. We also used tape to mark off lines for each grade where the children should stand to throw.
